Settle Down Now….

Ok, here is another bi-yearly update! :D Amy and i got back about a week ago from the Dawn & Drew farm. We were invited to Dawn-a-pa-Drew-za 3-za! We had an amazing time & made some amazing friends. Check out the pics on Flickr if you get a chance! Fun was had by all (maybe more some than others!) Many adult beverages were consumed! I think rum & coke is my new favorite (thank you, Drew!). They let me play a few songs opening for Smitten Bayou, which was an honor. I was nervous as hell, but got through it and everyone complemented me so i guess it went alright! :D Anyway, it’s been a week and i still feel like we are trying to get back in the normal swing of things. That’s it for now! Peace, Love & Midget… Jeff

Pancakes, Vodka and the Evil Eye

•April 19, 2008 • Leave a Comment

So this morning my wife and I take our buddy Jay to the local Applebee’s where they are having an all-you-can eat pancake breakfast. This was a fund raiser for the Kiwanis, so besides only being $5 for all-you-can-eat pancakes, it was for a good cause! We pull into the packed parking lot, then headed for the front door. Besides the chaos from all the volunteers inside, there were a bunch of Boy Scout’s helping out as well. They were going around picking up the empty plates of those that were finished with their round of pancakes. One of the Scouts in particular stuck out to us and we soon decided to save our empty plates until he came around. Now there was a family sitting in the booth next to us with their little toddler in a booster seat in the aisle and “our” Boy Scout/Waiter was coming our way. He stopped at the families table to see if they had any empty plates and the baby made some sort of noise while he was standing there. The Scout gave the baby the Evil Eye and made a noise that was somewhere between a sharp inhale and a hiss. My wife and i saw this and started to crack up! For the rest of the breakfast the Scout was now called Evil Eye (with me sometimes referring to him as Stink Eye)! He was totally going to get all of our plates for the rest of the breakfast. When we were ready to leave, Jay and Amy got out some quarters to give him as a tip, which he took with a bored look on his face then walked off. After we left Amy wanted to buy smokes so we headed over to the Discount Beer/Cig place which just happens to be right next door to a liquor store! So at 8:30 a.m., Jay and I make a trip in to buy some more vodka. I highly recommend early morning trips to buy booze. It makes you feel so alive! …ok, not really, but we were cracking up the whole time even after the cop walked in and looked us up and down. It was as if he was thinking, “who the hell buys vodka at 8:30 in the morning?”

Love life, eat pancakes.

When you wish upon a star…

So, tonight while i was outside letting the dogs do their business, i looked up and saw a shooting star. Now it has been twenty, maybe twenty-five years since i have seen one gracing the night sky. What’s the first thing that pops into my head? “I wish i may, i wish i might…” That’s right…. i made a wish… almost like a knee-jerk reaction, but still, i made a wish. Here’s to all of you and yours…. may all your wishes come true. :)

Ok, ok, ok… i know… so much for the new years resolution of once a day blogging (insert sound of Jay’s non-stop laughing here). I’m trying to figure out a schedule to do this blog thing and it seems like a good idea (aren’t they all!) to attempt to do it every night before i go to bed. You know, reflect on the day and whatnot… So here i go again (on my own…) It has been raining here off and on for a few days and there has been fairly decent weather… except for today. It is getting cold again and the weather type people are talking about ice and snow, school closings, bread and milk shortages, dogs and cats… living together… mass hysteria! I, for one, don’t buy into the whole cold weather crisis crap. I have enough food in the fridge/freezer/deep-freeze to keep me going for quite a while. Besides, what they call bad weather here doesn’t amount to a hill of beans compared to the winters i grew up with in Missouri. On a side note, i’m exited that my good buddy (who currently resides in the land of Tolkien) is coming back state-side for a couple of weeks! We are like two Chatty Cathys and it will be good to hang out together while he is here.

Ok. I know. Its been since October since i have updated this sucker, so i decided to get off my ass and give it a good college (second) try! Maybe it has something to do with the new year, maybe it has something to do with being in Vegas (vegas, baby…VEGAS!!!!). Maybe it has something to do with all those crab legs i ate last night…. who knows? Any way, i’m back, hopefully daily like i first intended. Let the revolution begin!!

Amy and i got to return to the wonderful Ryman again to see one of my all time favorite bands, Alice In Chains, play a rare acoustic show. Now, i’ve had my doubts like everyone else about how the new singer would sound and let me tell you, he did an amazing job. He sang all of Layne’s parts well without coming off like he was trying to sound exactly like Layne. He had the edge that Layne brought to the music, but added his own little bit of soul to it, which i thought was cool. Plus, he played guitar on every song… again, i thought that added to his positives.  Another great show in a great venue!

Hipsters, Birthdays and Orange Tic-Tacs

Last night my wife and i were invited to go see Interpol at the Ryman in Nashville. Our friend Donny and his girl were going to celebrate his birthday and they had two extra tickets. We met them downtown off of Broadway at Layla’s and had a couple of drinks before heading to the Ryman. Layla’s has a great vibe, great music and great drinks. My new fav is the Stoli Orange with Red Bull…tastes like a tic-tac! Now if you have never been to or heard of the Ryman Auditorium i highly suggest looking it up online. The rich musical history and heritage of that place is amazing… not to mention the acoustics. Anyway, i had heard of Interpol and heard a few of their songs…. i have even seen part of their set when they opened up for the Cure here in Nashville, but other than that, i didn’t know much about them. Wow! What a show! The seats we had were 8th row, center and i everyone in the crowd was either dancing, singing or bobbing along to the music. Amazing, to say the least. After the show, we went back down to Layla’s where the other three continued to get “silly” as i like to call it, while good-boy Jeff became Designated Driver Man! So, water and soda for me… Then, we were off to East Nashville to this little place called Nico’s which turned out to be the coolest bar ever. Pin-ups, motorcycles and great music.. my kind of place! Nico and his dad were there tending bar and both were very cool to us. We left and headed home after what was one of the best nights i have had in quite a while. Here’s to good times, good tunes and good friends! Cheers!

Well i just finished up reapplying for financial aid for school. So far i think i am up too about $20k in loans. Yah, it is a lot, but it is a necessary evil. Otherwise there is no way i could be back in school, finishing my degree. Personally, i can not wait to get a job in the Information Technology (I.T.) field! I have always loved computers and anything to do with tech. Now if i can only think of what area i would like to go into. Maybe programming, maybe databases, maybe networking, maybe whoever hires me first?…. who knows? Anyone want to hire a guy with no experience and who almost has a degree?

So, i have been reading my good buddy Skip’s blog as well as his cool-as-heck brother Spike’s blog and they have inspired me to give it a go and let the world know what makes me tick. (As if the world cares about this little speck) So, here i am world! I have given birth to this insight into my scary little mind and am waiting for the Doc to smack me on the butt.
